what tn type is:

tn type is part of a set of genealogy & history pages and websites i’ve been building that center mostly on my own interest and research in the roane county, tennessee area where many members of my family - on both sides - were pioneers. this tn type site is set up as a blog, and i enter information, notes, narratives, etc. as time permits and as my particular interests on any given day dictate. the home page at http://tntype.com will always bring visitors to the most current page posted on the site (or to a link to it).

tn type = tennessee & type =
tn type logo

  • a small piece of metal with a raised character on one end which produces that character printed when the metal is inked and pressed onto paper
  • to write by means of a keyboard
  • identified as belonging to a certain category (or “type’)
  • a subdivision of a particular kind of thing
  • an abstract representation of an object or a variable
  • a person of a specified kind, a character, usually one with many eccentricities

the main tn type sites i write & maintain:

  • tntype.com - this site
  • tntype.kiddoink.com - the sidekick to this site at a subdomain of kiddo ink, which is another domain of mine - most of what appears there gets linked to from this blog; often it is a photo album or a pdf file that doesn’t really lend itself to the software publishing platform i use to produce this site
  • tntype.blogspot.com - a companion blog - the genesis of this one - hosted free by google’s blogspot
  • genielinks.blogspot.com- another companion blog - this one chock full of family links and more generalized tools or resources for genealogists
  • ~harriman, roane co, tn - roane co genealogy - my rootsweb site, whose free hosting is subsidized by ancestry.com ads (activated by clicking on the blue bar at the top or bottom of the pages)

i maintain several sites for a number of reasons:

  1. ♥ cost wink wink - sites with a lot of photos can take up huge amounts of bandwidth & so i make use of many free website hosting opportunities - like rootsweb, blogspot, google pages, and picasaweb.
  2. ♥ insurance against server maladies
  3. ♥ an attempt to accommodate people’s browsing habits & preferences for looking in certain locations on the web
  4. ♥ some of the sites originally served another purpose & rather than give them up, i re-purposed them, sprinkling genealogy bits all over the place
  5. ♥ my own varying creative interests - oh, & my a.d.d.
